The Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela and the UMH, through the Universitas Miguel Hernández Foundation of the Valencian Community, join forces to promote the installation of the Agrotechnological Science Park (specialized area of the UMH Scientific Park) that the university institution will implement in Orihuela with the Business Incubator as one of its headquarters. Precisely in the Business Incubator, the agreement has been signed today by means of which the two entities seal their collaboration for the next three years, signed by the rector, Jesús Tadeo Pastor and the president of Cámara Orihuela, Mario Martínez. The firm has been attended, among others, by the rector-elect Juan José Ruiz, the Vice Chancellor for Planning, Fernando Borrás and the managing director of the Scientific and Business Park of the UMH, Tonia Salinas.
The head of the house has welcomed the UMH “to which, from now on, it is also his house”, in reference to the Business Incubator, since it will be in these facilities that many of the actions foreseen in the agreement will be developed. A technician of the Scientific Park will have an office in the facilities of Cámara Orihuela where events, workshops, seminars, courses, etc. will also be held. Likewise, the projects or companies that are generated within the framework of this agreement will also have places for work in coworking format, holding meetings, offices and meeting rooms.
Mario Martinez has assured that this is an agreement “in which from the two parties we have put all our efforts to get ahead because it will undoubtedly give a boost to companies in the agri-food sector, whose importance is vital in our economy.” At the same time, Martinez pointed out that it will also be “an incentive to develop new projects in this sector, which as we have always defended from the Orihuela Chamber, have to be directed to research and development, and they know a lot about this in the UMH and especially in our campus in Desamparados, where we will have the luxury of having this Science Park. ”
The objects of the agreement are several, both work support the venture and the dissemination and promotion of it, and in fact already designed several programs as ‘Orihuela undertakes’, which has two categories, one aimed at entrepreneurial projects that present a potentially innovative business idea but that is not yet established as a business corporation, the second that will work with already established companies, in which the key aspects for the growth and survival of the company will be identified and analyzed. The second of the programs is called ‘Open Innovation’ and in this case will be aimed at innovation projects in the SMEs of Orihuela and the region, and the third is the program of awareness and dynamisation activities in which a set will be developed of events to sensitize the citizenship towards entrepreneurship and to welcome initiatives of reference on innovation and entrepreneurship.
The rector of the UMH and president of the Foundation with which the agreement has been signed, Jesús Tadeo Pastor Ciurana, has assured that for the UMH “this is an exciting project, since it is going to create a Scientific Park in each of our campuses, in the case of Orihuela, the Agrotech “. The university official has indicated that each of them has “its own peculiarities and dynamics”, and has highlighted the “synergies that we can create with Cámara Orihuela because we have common objectives to continue generating training and wealth in the areas where we are implanted”.
