The Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela has been launched together with the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community (CEV) to coordinate the support that different companies have already offered, after the floods caused by the cold drop in the Vega Baja. The cameral entity has also made contact with the City Council of Orihuela to transmit this support and has already sent a list with people, phones and services, to the Department of Emergencies.
At the moment there are seven companies that have offered to provide help on the subjects in which they are specialists. One of them has proposed to collaborate with donations of clothing, non-perishable food and school supplies. Food products such as pastries, bread, baby food, etc. are also offered.
As for medical assistance, another of the firms offers psychological care, collection of financial funds and team of volunteers who are registering on a website enabled for this purpose, to collect professionals willing to collaborate and in what tasks their participation is more valuable.
Likewise, companies also offer legal assistance and advice in claiming compensation. As for cleaning work, two companies make vans, minibuses, minibuses, buses, transfers, as well as containers and waste collection available to the City Council. In addition, they have already contacted the Orihuela Chamber to offer support to those affected in appraisals to assess damages.
The president of Cámara Orihuela, Mario Martínez, has assured that “we are putting all our efforts so that the business and social fabric of our city is once again what it was, and it is the companies themselves that have placed themselves in charge of the aid for reconstruction In Orihuela Chamber we have committed ourselves to coordinate all the collaboration that these companies want to offer ”. In this sense, Martínez has affirmed that “our companies and the industrial estates have suffered a lot with this cold drop, and what it is about now is that they receive all the possible help to restore normality for their business and their workers as soon as possible” .
From the CEV, they estimate that all of the industrial estates and 80% of the companies, out of a total of 21,900 companies registered in the Vega Baja region (more than 8,600 in Orihuela), have been affected by this tragic episode of floods The entire fruit and vegetable sector has also suffered the consequences of the cold drop, both in terms of production on land and the agri-food industry, which depends on the field.
Likewise, the Insurance Compensation Consortium has estimated a total of 12,000 claims in the provinces of Alicante and Valencia, of which 9,300 correspond to homes, businesses, industry and civil works, and 2,700 to automobiles. The total estimated cost is 103 million euros for now.
